A Little Nut-Tree

I had a little nut-tree, nothing would it bear
But a silver nutmeg and a golden pear;
The king of Spain's daughter came to visit me,
And all because of my little nut-tree.
I skipped over water, I danced over sea.
And all the birds in the air couldn't catch me.

I remember this one from my childhood! Is that Walter Crane or Kate Greenaway as the illustrator? Both are illustrators I adored as a girl and still do.

Thanks for sharing this, Lorie Ann.

I'm not sure, Joan! Anyone else know?

The illustration you have up was done by Walter Crane - the familiar initials he always hid somewhere(in a small circle) can barely be seen at the bottom left of the print.

Isn't that a wonderful little poem?

Very sweet! I think this is a candidate for my Poem in Your Pocket day selection!
